Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti yesterday flagged off eight tractors at Gahena field in Ndhiwa subcounty. The tractors will be hired out to farmers. "To hire these tractors, the farmers will only pay Sh2,000 per hectare for ploughing and Sh1,000 per hectare for harrowing. This is half the commercial costs," Awiti told the residents. He said the county will buy more tractors. Awiti said the project is part of the Integrated County Development Plan framework in which his government promised to reduce food insecurity and poverty from 52 per cent to 26 per cent by 2017.
