KISII Governor James Ongwae has asked residents to stop planting eucalyptus trees near water catchment areas. He said the tree species pose the highest threat to wetlands and water catchments. “Our region is threatened by acute water shortage unless residents stop planting the eucalyptus trees along water catchment areas,” Ongwae said. He made the remarks in a speech read on his behalf by Water executive Skitter Ocharo during the UN World Water Day celebrations at village South Mugirango subcounty on Saturday.
