Kisumu County Government has urged the national government to allow it to manage sugar mills instead of privatising them. Governor Jack Ranguma said selling the sugar mills to private investors will lock their potential of improving livelihoods of residents. Speaking on Sunday in Kisumu, Ranguma said instead of privatising the factories, the national government should lease them out to counties on loans. “Through this, we can be able to ask farmers to buy shares and be part of the companies to encourage them to supply more sugarcane,” Ranguma said.
