A quarantine imposed on livestock movement in Kakamega county has been lifted. Dr Kelly Nelima, the veterinary officer in charge of vaccination in the county, said an anthrax outbreak has been cleared “Anthrax was detected in the county in February leading to an aggressive vaccination of all livestock,” she said. Speaking to the press in her office yesterday, Nelima said three people died in Kakamega South after consuming beef from a cow suspected to have died from anthrax. “After a round of vaccination and assessment, we have found no incident of the diseases in the county.”
