A lobby group has asked the government to compensate landowners evicted from The Triangle in Mumias town. Amkeni Tunawiri County Forum director Desterio Okumu said compensation of the evicteess will terminate court cases around the issue and open up land for investment in the middle of the town. “The more than 200 acres of land in The Triangle is still lying idle since May 2006, when the defunct Mumias Municipal Council evicted residents in the middle of the night and brought down houses and destroyed property worth millions of shillings” Okumu said.
