KISII health director Geoffrey Otomu has slammed rampant teenage pregnancies. Otomu said at least five girls under 19 years conceived and delivered at a single rural health facility, translating to 50 births annually. “The rate of teenage pregnancy is worrying,” he said. Speaking in his office, Otomu encouraged young expectant mothers to deliver in health facilities, where there are trained health personnel who can detect any complication. He said early child births in adolescents lead to fistula and school dropouts, urging the community to educate the girl-child on the dangers of early sex.
