Cane farmers and politicians from Kakamega county have asked Governor Wycliffe Oparanya to explain the use of Sh200 million meant to pay the farmers. National ODM youth leader Rashid Mohammed led a team of farmers in accusing the county government of allocating the money to a contractor allied to Mumias Sugar Company. Last month, while launching the task force report on sugarcane farming in Kakamega county, Oparanya said the assembly had approved Sh200 million for paying farmers their arrears.
