BUTERE residents have been told not to sell their maize but store it for the future. Shianda-Marenyo ward county representative Grace Aluanga said some locals are selling their harvest for as low as Sh40 for two kilogrammes to unscrupulous middlemen. She said the middlemen “who have invaded the region with lorries” sell the maize at exorbitant prices when it becomes scarce. “Residents did not get a good harvest. They should keep the little they have so that when hunger strikes, they will use the stored maize” Aluanga said.
