Traders in Rongo town are counting losses after fire gutted down their shops and destroyed property worth more than Sh5 million. Catherine Irungu, the Rongo police boss said the fire started at about 9pm on Sunday from one of the residential houses behind the shops before spreading to six shops at Jata in the county. Irungu said they could not establish the cause of the fire but some witnesses said it could have been caused by an electric fault.
