500 illegal fishing nets destroyed in Nyatike

AUTHORITIES in Nyatike subcounty have destroyed more than 500 illegal fishing nets. Migori county principal fisheries officer Tom Ojuok said the move will replenish fish stock in Lake Victoria. “The nets had small openings which reduce fish stock in the lake by killing young fish and eggs causing depletion,” he said. Ojuok said the nets were impounded from fishermen at Got Kochola and Sori beaches.
