KWS hopes to raise Sh35m in Kisumu boat race

KENYA Wildlife Service will host the third Kisumu Impala Sanctuary boat race on November 29 which is expected to raise Sh35 million. Speaking on Monday during the launch of the race KWS Kisumu senior warden Catherine Wambani said the funds will be used to conserve the endangered sitatunga antelopes. She said the race will also create awareness and encourage the community to participate in water sports. “This year we aim to raise Sh4 million to fence the Impala B within the sanctuary,” Wambani said. “Winners will be awarded Sh100,000 and will be our ambassadors against the wildlife poaching.”...
