Use of mother tongue among teachers and lack of exposure is to blame poor performance of schools in Suna West division, Moi Suba Girls Secondary School principal Rosemary Orlando has said. Speaking during a divisional academy-day at Marten Jascebas Academy, she said most teachers teach in vernacular language. “The situation is worse in rural schools as teachers think that they are teaching students better when they explain concepts in mother tongue,” Orlando said.
