Traders and residents of Kakamega town yesterday held a demonstration to protest against the taxes imposed by the county government. The taxes, which will be enforced under the county Finance Act, will become operational on Monday. “The county government did not bother to include the input of stakeholders in the law,” said Haneyco Shikanda, a trader. At one point, the demonstration turned violent with the protestors engaging the police in running battles.
