Kuppet Kisumu branch against taxation of teachers

THE Kuppet Kisumu branch rejects the proposed scheme by the Teachers Service Commission to tax teachers. Chairman Zablon Awange said the three per cent deductions from sacco and welfare associations will discourage teachers from taking loans. He said teachers apply for sacco loans at lower interest rates and it is wrong to tax them. Speaking to the Star on the phone yesterday, Awange said the tax will lead to the collapse of the saccos. He said schools might close if free funds are not released.
