40 women graduate from soapstone carving training

FORTY women who founded Tabaka Gosere Women Carvers Group have graduated after undergoing a one- year training sponsored by Site Enterprises Promotion. The women were awarded certificates and are set to transform the carving sector. Speaking at Tabaka yesterday during the graduation ceremony, Gerard Motondi, a sculptor, said the skills will help the women carve quality products, which will sell locally and internationally. Many women in Kisii county are taking up soap- stone carving, a field which in the past was dominated by men.
