KENYA Sugarcane Growers Association has welcomed the government's move to suspend the Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Act for six months. Kesga secretary general Richard Ogendo on Friday said the suspension will allow for consultation between cane farmers and the government to improve the sugar industry. The Act was to come into force on July 24. “Farmers were not consulted when the Bill was being drafted,” Ogendo said. He said some issues left out of the Act will be addressed in the next six months.
