A new environment bill to address solid waste management in Kisumu county is in the pipeline. Majority leader Samuel Ong’ow said the bill will soon be ready for debate and approval. Speaking during a press conference at the county assembly on Thursday, he said it will compel residents to be responsible. Ong’ow said the bill will impose heavy fines for illegal dumping and direct effluents discharge into Lake Victoria and rivers. He said the bill should have been taken to the assembly for debate by now but there were delays.
